ATI Graphics Card good for Gaming?

I'm about to build a well runnning yet low-cost computer. The graphics card I'm about to order is the Diamond Viper ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 512MB . The specs on this beast is amazing but I'm not so sure if it's good with gaming. But it handles Direct X10 so it should work great right?

  1. Yea should be good for gaming will handel all the latest games with direct X10 Or have a look at the 8800 series from Nvidia there really good as well.
  2. 512mb of RAM should be more than enough for gaming. Seeing as how the RAM in video cards handles most of the polygons. Although I wouldn't get it unless it has a pixel4 shader. Also you're going to want to check your motherboard to see if it has AGP or PCI ports. Although most cards these days use PCI 16x.
  3. Yup, that is a decent mainstream DX10 card. What is best about it is that simply overclocking it brings it to XT level. It runs cool because of its low power draw.
  4. It will play older games pretty well (2-3 years plus) but anything newer, you will only get medium settings. And as for DirectX 10, don't even think about putting a DirectX 10 game on it, even the high end cards can barely run DirectX 10 games at decent framerates, forget about this one doing it. Look at a 2900Pro if you can, about $280 but is well worth the money.
