Graphics Upgrade

Looking to upgrade ATI graphics card on my notebook?

I currently have an ATI Mobility Radeon AGP graphics card, but am looking to upgrade for better performance when I upgrade to Windows Vista. I want the best possible card that my computer can handle, but I don't know how to tell which cards are compatible with my pc. I am considering an X1650 AGP...is this an upgrade over the 9600? Is it necessary to stick with an AGP card? The rest of my pc is top of the line, so I'm wondering what is the best card my pc can handle?

  1. I have never seen a notebook with a video card slot. The video chipset is built onto the motherboard. It can not be removed. Besides that. As far as video cards go there is going to be a HUGE jump in preformance here very soon. Its part of Direct X 10 and the hardware HAS to be compatible with it. Currently the only card I know about is the GeForce 8800 I cant stress the differance the new DX 10 stuff will make. This is a bigger change than the pixel shader 3.0 that really kicked in with the 6800... You will use the 8800 card for many years to come.
