Graphics Upgrade

I currently run a AGP graphics card; is my PC capable of using a PCI Express graphics card?

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with a NVIDIA GeForce FX5200, 128 MB. I want to upgrade to something with 512 MB, budget is $250, I am not doing gaming, and have a monitor capable of supporting 1680 x 1050 resolution. I will be working with hi-res photography, video and audio (music) editing. Can not get a new PC; just stuck with what I have for now and can afford a graphics upgrade. OS is WinXP Pro. I can find an AGP card, but wonder if PCI-E will work. PC build was 11/2004

  1. You can't. You have to change your MotherBoard.
  2. PCI-E will not work on that motherboard, but you do have AGP options. There are several models featuring 512MB in AGP, well within your budget. Here is one of them: http://www.bfgtech.com/7600GS_512.html
  3. If you have an available PCI slot it will. Don't try to run both at the same time however.
