Graphics Upgrade

OK i want to upgrade my graphics card, but i have a problem?

Ok i have a Sony PCV-RS246 and i won't to upgrade the graphics card. The original graphics card is in AGP slot, how ever AGP graphics are a bit expensive for what i want, However the computer does have 2 free PCI slots. Can i put a graphics card in one of those- and it will still work?, and could it be an PCI express one? What's the difference between PCI and PCI Express?

  1. go with PCI-e if possible...it has a higher bandwidth capability so it could increase performance for you. PCI is OK and would work, with no problems for you, AGP is pretty much in the same performance category as PCI, nothin' special. And none of the cards will fit into the slot made for the others, each one is unique.
  2. You can either use a PCI or AGP graphics card. A PCI Express card would not work since it uses a completely different plug than PCI. Speeds: PCI Express = 6400 MB/s PCI = 133 MB/s AGP = 2,100 MB/s So, I would try to stick with AGP since you don't have a PCI-e. Check out www.Newegg.com
