Graphics Upgrade

How do I configure an ATI graphics card on an SLI ASUS motherboard?

I am trying to get an HD4890 Vapor-X card to work on an ASUS m3n-HT motherboard, but can so far only use the ports for the on-board graphics. There is little support to explain the BIOS settings and apparently nowhere to disable the on-board graphics.
