Graphics upgrade?

I got a dell dimension 4600 desktop. Ya it's pretty old but it is an amazing computer still runs ridiculously fast and well. The graphics card is pretty decent considering the computer is like 6 years old. But im looking to upgrade it so i can play high demanding games on it. What type of upgrade should i get?

  1. Make Sure you have atleast 2.8 ghz and 2+ gigs of RAM FIRST OF ALL Then I would go towards one of the nVidia 9000 series cards
  2. If you are willing to spend around $200, I would *highly* recommend an NVIDIA 8800 GT. Here's a good site. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=8800+gt&x=0&y=0 The only thing I've played that cannot be run smoothly on the highest settings is Crysis.
  3. uhh acehigh are you crazy a comp that is six years old couldent run the 9000 series or nvidia and there expensive and thats just a bad comment but anyways for your dell pc make sure the mobo has pci e x16 ands then get a card like maybe a 8800 version of some nvidia card ur minum specs shoudl be at least a dual core 2 gigs of ram
  4. You can't upgrade it. Build a new computer
  5. you'll want to purchase a gddr3 card, maybe from ATI's HD series as these give excellent fps on most modern games but make sure what graphics slot you have.
  6. Keep in mind your Dimension 4600 uses an AGP slot for its graphics card. That means you need to look for an AGP card-- The newer PCIExpress graphics cards will not work in your system. I recommend this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161226 That's about as good as you are going to get with AGP.
  7. Ok, repeat after me. "A computer 6 years old can NOT support PCIe, as it wasn't out yet." So the question is, what does it have? According to this site, it might/should have an AGP slot. http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-dimension-4600-pentium/4505-3118_7-30529709.html Before you spend the money, you should open the case and make sure you do have one. If you do, its time to find yourself a new AGP card and PSU. You'll need to spread your total budget between the both of them, please tell us how much you can spend so we can suggest parts. Read this so you know why I think you need a new one, besides of course modern AGP cards use more power then a 6yo PSU can provide... http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,129857-page,2-c,desktoppcs/article.html
