32-bit vs 64-bit PCs...Is it possible to have a 64-bit processor and run 32-bit Vista to avoid driver issues? I like the idea of buying a laptop that will hold up for the future, and having the capability of eventually running 64-bit Vista and using more than 3-4 GB RAM. I see a lot of laptops on sale that use 64-bit processors and are installed with 32-bit Vista. Is this possible or is it really 64-bit Vista? Should I consider these laptops? Also, I'm not really into gaming, and I would probably do this mainly on a desktop, but that's not to say I never will play games on a laptop. I like computers with power and speed, and with the capability of doing anything, so which combination of processor and graphics card should I consider (T5500 vs T8100 vs AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-60, Intel's integrated graphics vs ATI or NVidia dedicated graphics). I don't really care about battery life since I usually plug my current laptop in anyway.

Which 24” Imac should I purchase? The 2008 – 2009 24” Imac or the March 2009 24” Imac? I am currently deciding on which 24” Imac I should purchase. My budget is $1500. I am currently torn between the following two Imacs: Option 1 (2008 – 2009 24” Imac) • 2.8 GHz "Penryn" Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 320 GB hard drive, 2 GB RAM (4 GB max), 8x multi-format/dual-layer SuperDrive • 802.11n Wi-Fi (as well as 802.11a/b/g); Gigabit Ethernet; ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO video card (256 MB memory) • Three USB 2.0, one FireWire 400, one FireWire 800, Mini-DVI output, audio line in/optical digital audio input (minijack) Price: $1400 Option 2 (March 2009 24” Imac) • 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 640 GB hard drive, 4 GB RAM (8 GB max), 8x multi-format/dual-layer SuperDrive • Draft-N Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n); Gigabit Ethernet; Bluetooth 2.1; NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics with 256 MB of shared memory • Four USB 2.0, one FireWire 800, Mini DisplayPort output (with optional adapters for DVI and VGA), audio line in/optical digital audio input Price: $1500 Option 1 is the older generation Imac but has a faster processor (2.8ghz) and a dedicated graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO) vs the new generation Imac with a slower processor (2.66ghz) and an integrated graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M). The newer generation Imac (option 2) however has the following advantages: •Larger hard drive (320gb vs 640gb) •More ram (4gb ddr3 vs 2gb ddr2) The hard drive is not really a deciding factor because I already plan to get a 1TB external hard drive. Upgrading the older generation Imac’s ram is also not an issue because ddr2 ram is fairly reasonable. The ram capacity however is a factor because the older generation only supports a max of 4gb ddr2 (slightly slower than ddr3) and the new generation supports up to 8gb ddr3. In a nutshell I am torn between the two computers based on their respective advantages (in my opinion that is). OLD MODEL IMAC •Faster processor •Faster dedicated graphics card (Correct me if I am wrong) NEW MODEL IMAC •Larger maximum capacity for ram and faster ram I would appreciate Answers and Opinions from current Imac owners please.

What are workstation grahpics cards used for? By that I mean graphics cards like Nvidia Quadro FX or ATI Fire GL. - What are they used for? (Obviously they're put on workstation computers) - Why are they so expensive (like $2000 for the quadro fx 5600) - Are they like the Xeons of GPUs (vs normal GPUs - the normal CPUs would be like the Conroes)? - And ... if used for gaming, how good would they be for gaming, like in comparison to an 8800 ultra?
